After you file
You're not alone. Anyone who's transcript shows a 1/4/21 payment issue date and hasn't received their deposit yet, probably opted to pay their filing fees from their refund. So the IRS inadvertently sent everyone's payments to the pass through account TurboTax and H&R Block use to receive your refund and take their fees before forwarding and depositing into your personal account. H&R Block apparently kept their pass through accounts open so, somehow they've been able to deposit payments into the accounts customers provided when they filed. TurboTax closed their pass through accounts with Green Dot and rejected the payments and they've been sent back to the IRS. As of now, we're looking at 4-6 weeks for paper checks to be mailed. These rejected payments are excluded from the January 15th deadline because technically they issued and sent the payments before then. I've been told TurboTax, Green Dot and the IRS have been working to fix the issue and resend payments back out to the CORRECT accounts but there's no guarantee on that and we should basically anticipate receiving our payments by mail in the next month or so.
And yes, everyone affected by this seems to have received their 1st stimulus into their account with no issues last year. Apparently they were rushing to issue payments and this pass through account info glitch was over looked this time. So now there are tons of people who are looking at their transcripts seeing 1/4/21 payment issue date but have yet to receive their deposit. At no fault of their own. I'm not exactly sure who dropped the ball here. I've heard its IRS at fault for rushing and missing the glitch and I've also heard TurboTax provided them with these account numbers. If you check the IRS 'Get My Payment' tool on the website some are seeing 'Payment #2 Status Not Available' and some are seeing their payment was issued to an account number that is not theirs. Green Dot has said they are likely seeing an account number ending in the last 4 of their ssn. Which is how they set up the pass through accounts for TurboTax.
