I mailed my return in on July 5th, and I recently checked on the status of it today (7/15) but it says that it was unavailable. I looked it up and understand that when mailing a return, it'll take about 4-6 weeks for the results to show up in the IRS Refund Status tool. However, since today is the last day to file taxes and I was wondering what I'm suppose to do to check my tax return status and make sure it got sent out properly to the IRS offices.
Also should I file for an extension just in case? Would I still be able to file for an extension?
