After you file
It depends.
If your dad was listed as a dependent on your tax return as originally filed, you would have received the Credit for Other Dependents on your tax return for $500. This credit would have been reflected on Page 2, Line 13a of your Form 1040.
If you remove your dad, you would no longer have this $500 credit to offset your tax liability. Review your tax return as you originally filed to confirm.
Another issue could be the filing status. If you filed as single, your standard deduction was $12,200, but if you had filed as head of household, your standard deduction with your dad would have been $18,350. This difference could also result in you now owing taxes.
