I filed my taxes early and I put my dad as my dependent. With COVID-19 and the stimulus, my dad was unable to get a stimulus check because he was my dependent and I wanted to remove him as my dependent. He hasn't been working and doesn't have bills or anything under his name so figured putting him on my taxes would show as proof that we live together. When I initially filed, I checked with and without him and I saw that I would receive the same amounts but now that I went in to amend and remove him, it says I would owe $423 to federal. Can anyone help me out with why? The Federal withholding on my w-2 is what I received which is the same as last year, and last year I filed as single instead of Head of Household.
