After you file
At issue here, even for efilers, is if there are any questions or concerns found regarding your return. I efiled in mid-February. My daughter efiled a week later. She got her refund in 7 days. My return status went from the typical status bar indicating that is was received and being processed, to after about 3 weeks, the status bar going away and just the words indicating that my return is still being processed and a refund date will be provided when available. In March, I finally was able to speak to an agent, on the afternoon of the last day the processing centers were open. She tried to find out what the hold up was, but she could tell me there was an issue but not what the issue was. So, no one available to actually research and process returns once the centers shut. Stimulus check processing then took precedence as well. If your return didn't have an issue and you efiled, you would have gotten you refund. If, however, there is any question or mistake on your return, expect nothing until perhaps July.
