After you file
It depends.
If the IRS has not yet selected your information for a stimulus payment, they may still only look at your 2019 tax return.
However, if you end up not getting a stimulus payment because they looked at 2018 instead of 2019, you will still be able to get credit on your 2020 tax return.
When you file your 2020 income tax return, you will be asked for information about the amount of the stimulus payment you received, and if it is less than you are entitled to, you will be given a credit on your 2020 tax return.
