After you file

Your name will need to be on your bank account in order to receive your refund there.

You can have a check mailed to you from the IRS.

If you're getting a refund, but have no bank account in which to direct-deposit it, you can:

  1. Deposit to an existing prepaid card. You'll need the routing and account number, which you can get by calling the prepaid card's customer service number.
  2. Open a bank account tomorrow. Once you've opened your account, come back to TurboTax to enter your bank account information, and then e-file to get your refund as quickly as possible.
  3. Opt for a check refund. Please allow 4–6 weeks for delivery for IRS checks.
  • Note: Some state tax departments don't offer check refunds.
