If the amount of the federal refund check or direct deposit that you received differs from the amount shown on your return, the IRS (or your state) will mail you a letter that explains why. That letter can take a few weeks to reach you. TurboTax doesn't receive any information about your refund from the IRS.
The amount typically differs for one of two reasons. Either due to a correction that has been made to your return or a U.S. Treasury offset.
If it is due to a return correction, you will have to wait for the letter for an explanation.
You can check to see you are subject to a U.S. Treasury offset by calling (800) 304-3107 and following the prompts.
