After you file
If you claimed your son as a dependent and if there was no scholarship income shown on the 1098-T that paid for other than qualified expenses, then it does not need to be entered on his tax return. You would enter it on your tax return and claim qualified education expenses paid out of pocket or with loans for an education credit on your tax return.
