After you file

A 1095-A means that you had a health plan through the Affordable Care Act and you are required to reconcile any Premium Tax Credits you received.

In prior years, the IRS will send out a notice saying that you don't need to amend your return. Instead, they ask that you promptly fax or mail them the Form 8962 you are required to complete to reconcile the 1095-A you received.

If there are changes to your refund, they will adjust accordingly once you provide the Form 8962.

So, the way to handle this in TurboTax is to pretend like you are amending your tax return so that you can get back into the software to add your 1095-A and generate a Form 8962. You can also "add a state" to get back into the area to enter tax information.

Then, after you enter your 1095-A into the health care section, you will simply print only the Form 8962 instead of the entire return. You will then provide that Form 8962 to the IRS in accordance with the letter they will send you.

You can prepare the Form 8962 now so that when you get the letter from the IRS you will be ready to respond!
