After you file
For your Federal tax return, it is for the best that you failed to include your medical marihuana.
The IRS does not allow illegal operations or treatments to be deductible on a Federal tax return. Marijuana is still illegal under federal law, a Schedule 1 drug.
So what about a state tax return? It is an interesting question. I do not know what state you live in, but my advice here would be that unless you can find a specific mention for marijuana as deductible under the state tax code, I would avoid it. Yes, marijuana is legal in many states, but it is still illegal on the Federal level. Taking it as a deduction on a state return would be quite risky, with the potential to subject you to penalties and interest for inaccurately filing your returns.
