After you file
Yes, if you elected to receive your original refund via direct deposit that is how you will receive it. If you are due a larger refund than on your original return, your amended return should only show the difference and you will receive a separate check for it. You will still receive any refund that you were due from your original tax return, or if you owe, you will still need to pay that amount. If you owe money on your amended return, it will show only the new amount owed, you will have to mail a check with the return.
Please be aware that Form 1040X will not be available to prepare in TurboTax until mid-February , but once it is available, you will be able to prepare and print your amended return so that you can mail it to the IRS.
