Hi,
I just noticed a letter in the mail regarding a private collector that says I need to pay money to the IRS from year 2012. It doesn't look like a scam, since they are asking me to go to the IRS's website to pay. However, there is no explanation for WHY I owe this money, and the IRS hasn't tried to contact me over the past 8 years. I file every year and have always updated my address with each filing. My 2012 taxes were filed using Turbo Tax, and after going over my records, I can't see any mistakes. Does the IRS have people that can give me detailed information about this? When I go online, it won't allow me to go that far back.
