After you file
I was thinking about the same initially. The amended form was saved to a different file name so I do have the original tax2017 file. When I opened that original file with the updated Turbotax2017 software, the numbers were the same as the original tax return.
This seems to have occurred to a lot of users. One of the answers I searched suggests the user must have changed something. In my case the tax2017 file time stamp shows the same initial filing date. Another user suggested that a workaround is to only use the new 1040, and calculate 1040X by hand. But TurboTax claims they can file amended returns...
