 Have you spoken to the IRS?  If you can't get good information from the IRS, or they aren't living up to their promises, you can speak to the IRS Taxpayer Advocate Service.   They are especially prone to help if there is a financial hardship.

At the following IRS website, find the USA map and click on your state, and it will give you the number of your IRS Taxpayer Advocate.
