After you file

The State of New Jersey Department of Treasury states that, if you e-filed your return "it will generally take four weeks or more to process and validate. If you filed a paper return it can take up to 12 weeks to validate." However, New Jersey just started accepting refunds on March 1, 2018 due to refund fraud resulting from identify theft has increased, we are using additional tools to protect New Jersey taxpayers. These enhanced efforts could result in early filers experiencing a slight delay in receiving their refunds."

If you have received a CJW notice code you maybe required to electronically send through the New Jersey Online Notice Response Service or mail copies of the following documents:

  • Your New Jersey Income Tax return (Form NJ-1040);
  • New Jersey Schedule A 42 kb;
  • All tax returns you filed with another state, city or town (if any);
  • All W-2s issued by your employer(s);
  • Any 1099 statement you have that shows New Jersey with-holdings to the following address: New Jersey Division of Taxation – CJW PO Box 438 Trenton, NJ 08646-0438

However, if you haven't received a CJW notice code but it's showing in your status contact the New Jersey Division of Taxation at 1-800-323-4400.

Go to New Jersey's Income Tax Refund Information page (click on the Online Hyperlink, then, continue) to check your refund status. It may take some time to show up in their system.
