After you file

If you have already filed your return and you would like to change your banking information, unfortunately, at this time it is too late to do so.  If the bank routing number and account number for Direct Deposit is changed, and you no longer have that account, and the check cannot be deposited into it, the bank will reject your deposit and return the funds to the IRS. The IRS will automatically switch to a paper check through the mail.

If you want to just change the address and your return has already been accepted, again it is too late to do so. If it can't be delivered to the address you used, it will be returned to the IRS, and rejected, you can then fix the rejection and resubmit.

You can try contacting the IRS to see if they could assist you before your refund is processed.   You can also submit a Form 8822 to change your address with the IRS. Keep in mind they may not receive it until after the refund is processed. See the attached document for more information.
