After you file
To enter miscellaneous income not reported on 1099-MISC (your stipend)
- Log into your account and continue (if not already there).
- In the Search box (top right-hand corner), type “miscellaneous income”.
- Click on the Magnifying Glass icon.
- Click on “Jump to miscellaneous income” link high-lighted in Blue.
- Click on No tab when asked “Did you get a 1099-MISC?”
- Scroll down to Less Common Income
- Click on Show more (if not already open)
- Click on Start (or Revisit) tab next to Miscellaneous Income, 1099-A, 1099-C
- Click on Start tab next to “Other Income not already reported on a Form W-2 or Form 1099
- Answer Yes on the Did you receive any other wages? Screen, Continue.
- Continue past Wages Earned as a Household Employee and Sick or Disability Pay
- Answer Yes on the Any Other Earned Income screen
- Choose Other on the Enter Source of Other Earned Income screen
- Enter your stipend information on the Any Other Earned Income screen (Description & Amount).
This will report your stipend on line 7 of your Form 1040, and you will not be subject to Self Employment Tax.
