Federal Income Tax refunds are processed electronically, if you asked for direct deposit, and will arrive in your account on a Thursday. Most banks will process and make the payment available immediately upon receipt, but some may wait up to two days to make them available. There will always be one Thursday between the time you file and when your refund is issued. This means if you file on a Thursday, it will be two weeks or 15 days before you receive your refund. Friday, 14 days, Saturday 13 days, etc, to Wednesday, when it will be 8 days.
There is the possibility that your refund may be held up pending a lien placed on it by a federal or state agency. This is usually only for payment of back taxes or child support, but could be for other items. But these are rare.
If, however, you asked for a check to be mailed to you, the check will be mailed the same day that you would get an electronic transfer. That check could take days or even weeks to arrive.
