After you file

Some delays have been noticed this year primarily due to one of the following:

  • The IRS has selected your return for identification verification (ID Verify)
  • Form 8962 was not reported for a Form 1095-A from a Marketplace health insurance plan
  • Return is in review by the IRS
  • Form 8379 for Injured Spouse Allocation was used - this can take up to 14 weeks to process

While you should receive a letter for the first three of those reasons, you can contact the IRS, a local assistance center or a taxpayer advocate after 21 days for more information and assistance.  If you suspect your refund is being held, people have made progress using a taxpayer advocate.
