After you file

I understand. These things happen. You will not file an amendment. However, if a return is rejected, you can "fix and file" by correcting it under your Personal Info as listed below.

If your return has already been accepted by the IRS, you can't change your address.

If you are getting a paper check in the mail, the check will be returned to the IRS and you will need to change your address with them. Here are the instructions to change your address with the IRS IRS Form 8822 Address Change.

You may also need to contact your state.

I have included full instructions for you below including links to contact your specific state(s)

If your return is rejected, you can update your mailing address in TurboTax by taking the following steps:

  • In your return, select "Personal Info"
  • On "Personal Info Summary" page, just below the "Add a Dependent" box in blue, you will see your Mailing Address listed
  • Click on "Edit" button to the right of your Mailing Address
  • On "Enter your current mailing address" page, edit your mailing address as needed, and click on Continue button
  • You will be returned to the "Personal Info Summary" page

If you have already filed your return, you should use Form 8822, Change of Address, to report your new mailing address to the IRS. https://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc157.html
