What exactly should be reported as gambling winnings?
I have kept a personal diary/ledger of my gambling winnings – basically what I deposited versus withdrawn per session from online gambling sites. The amounts I calculated are MUCH lower versus what I received from my gambling summaries via each gambling site.
The reason for this is because the winnings/losses calculated by the gambling sites include the results of each and every card hand played. The back and forth of hand results drive the numbers sky-high, despite what was actually deposited/withdrawn.
My question is what does the IRS actually care about in this regard? Should I report the sum total of every hand played or the result of each of my gambling sessions played? The difference of both sets of numbers equals the same amount lost.
Thanks!
