Get your taxes done using TurboTax
You being covered under your parent's health insurance will only be an issue if the policy is from a Marketplace (Obamacare or ACA plan) and your parents receive a 1095-A. The details of a government plan must be reported on your tax return. Employer plans or plans that issue a 1095-B or 1095-C do not get reported. Indicating that you were covered is enough.
If the policy is NOT through a plan that issues a 1095-A, all you have to do is answer the question about being covered YES and answer NO to the ''Does this plan issue a 1095-A'' question.
The first question asks ''Were you covered''. it doesn't matter who covered you. If you were covered all year, answer YES. The next question asks if your coverage was from a 1095-A plan. If you answer NO, you are done reporting your health insurance information. If yes, you will need to enter the information from the 1095-A that you were covered by.
