If you want to use the state and local tax deduction over the sales tax deduction,
- Log in to your account.
- Go to Federal Taxes.
- Go to Deductions and Credits.
- Scroll down to Estimated and other taxes paid and click show more.
- Select Sales Tax.
- On the screen Let's compare Your Sales Tax and Income Tax select the State and Local Tax Deduction.
