If your return is still showing as processing, it sounds as if it requires some sort of manual assistance to complete processing.
This happens for a lot of returns and typically, it will only delay a return by a few days. However, this year, the IRS is working with very limited staffing and many department closures at this time.
Due to these limitations, extreme delays are occurring for many taxpayers and we do not yet know when operations are expected to return to normal.
