Question about the $5000 tax exempt according to the U.S China tax treaty
Hello I'm an international student and resident alien. This is my first year doing the tax report and I have some questions about the $5000 tax exempt according to the U.S China tax treaty.
I've worked in two different institutes this year and I've received two W-2 forms. For the first insitutue I worked in this summer, the W-2 form shows a total income of $5344.70, but it only shows $344 in the BOX.1 (Box 1 - Wages, tips, other compensation) of W-2 form and shows $5344.70 in the Box.3 (Social Security wages).
When I upload this W-2 form in the turbotax system, it only counts the $344 in the Box.1 as my income. I'm a bit confused about this, does this mean that the W-2 form from the first institute I worked this year had already deduct the tax-free $5000 dollars for me or I can still have another $5000 dollars exempt from tax? If I can have another $5000 exempt from tax, how should I apply for this in my tax report?
