Get your taxes done using TurboTax
Hi thanks for responding.
It was a 2017 tax return filed about 12 hours before it was too late to ever file (eg the 3 year deadline issue) it so I have several years of interest to figure on it. I tried repeatedly back in January to get hold of the IRS to ask a different question and never once, after 40 or so calls over 2 weeks was I able to get through so likely I will never be able to get through. It would make a lot of sense if they'd load these things to our personal IRS account but of course that makes too much sense so why would they ever bother to do that? (sigh).
Do you know where to find what the interest rate was each year so I can use an online calculator (or figure out how to work out the formula in excel) so I can do a more accurate job of figuring it out? I'd start 16 weeks after the due date that year and then I have no idea when I actually received that refund as I don't see a bank deposit date so I may well have cashed that check instead, but I could at least go midway in 2021 to figure it out. I know it was in the $400 range but have no clue how much.
I guess if I can't ever get it I will file the federal and state, wait for them to correct it, wait until the transcript is uploaded, see the 1099-INT amount in there, then file a state amended form, and possibly die of old age before I get any money back and hope the time to file an amended form hasn't passed.
I called the state (today no less when taxes are due and they answered me OMG who would have thought in this state?) hoping they could look in their data base to see what it was, nothing there. They told me they sometimes get that info 2-3 YEARS later and sometimes never get it.
Thanks again.
