It's not useless to check to know why it was rejected. If you don't know why then you can't properly correct it. It appears that it was a result of government inefficiency. We had updated her married name at the SS office 11 months prior to filing, but apparently their system was still checking against her maiden name instead of her current married name. The agent I spoke with said it's best to mail in filings after a name change.
