TurboTax will not allow you to file the tax return until the issue is resolved. The only time anything needs to be entered into TurboTax is if you have a 1095-A. If you do not have a 1095-A and TurboTax is not letting you file, it is because you have answered the question incorrectly or TurboTax keeps going back to yes.
The first thing to try is to go back to the section where the 1095 -A is entered and delete the form or answer No to the question.
- Go back into TurboTax and open your return, if it is not already opened.
- Click on Deductions and Credits and scroll down to Medical
- Click on Revisit or Edit/Add next to Affordable Care Act (Form 1095-A)
- Answer the question about unemployment and click Continue
- The next screen asks the question Did you receive Form 1095-A for your health insurance plan? Answer No, I didn't receive a Form 1095-A and click on continue
- Click continue on the next screen and it should take you back to the Deductions and Credits screen.
Now try to complete the filing process.
If this does not work, then try this workaround:
If you do not have a 1095A and did not have marketplace coverage but the section seems to keep defaulting to "yes" This is not a defect, but a case of a form hanging on in the return.
- When revisiting the section the default answer is still set to yes but the 8962 and 1095A are not part of the return.
- If you select Yes you will be prompted to enter the 1095A information and you cannot continue leaving the full form blank as an error will be presented.
- Now you will not be prompted with the yes/no question to receiving the 1095A and will see your entry with options to edit/delete the entry.
- Delete the 1095A entry and both the 1095A and 8962 are removed from the return.
- If you revisit the section again default will be yes but the forms are removed
- Now, select No, efile your return, and if you are rejected, then the IRS requires your 1095A in the return.
