Yes, you will need the copies of the 1095A and then you will need to allocate your share of the amounts listed for all 12 months. Your parents will need to do the same on their tax returns. Here are the steps.
- Click on Deductions & Credits under Federal
- Under the menu for Medical, click Start/Revisit next to Affordable Care Act (Form 1095-A)
- Answer Yes indicating that you have the form to enter
- complete the information on the next screen to match your form and click continue. Do not allocate on this screen.
- On the following screen, choose I shared this policy with another taxpayer who's not on my taxes
- On the screen that follows, provide the information for your parents and the allocation percentages.
Keep in mind, you need to agree with your parents on how to allocate the amounts that are listed on the 1095A. If your parents wish to claim all of the amounts listed, then you will put all zeros in columns A, B, and C on the 1095A but this may cause an error message when you file
