Hi
I am on a J-1 visa and will be considered as resident alien for tax purposes in 2022. My salary until end of June 2022 will be covered by a fellowship of my home country. For this fellowship, I will need to pay estimated taxes. I might be considered for a second fellowship of my home country for the last 6 months of the year 2022. However, the decision will be made only in May 2022. If I dont get the fellowship, I will be paid normally by University and will not need to pay estimated taxes any longer. My questions are:
- Can I use Turbotax to calculate estimated taxes if I did not pay taxes before (because of status as non-resident alien for tax purposes)?
- How do I calculate estimated taxes for 2022 if I do not know yet from where I will get my future salary for the last 6 months which will also determine if I need to pay estimated taxes or not?
