You can always mail your tax return if you know the information for each of your dependents is correct. I would suggest that you check the following for each dependent.
- Last name as it appears on the social security card exactly. If there are two last names you must use the first last name, then the second last name.
- Check the number against the actual social security card.
- Check the date of birth of each dependent
These three criteria is being matched in the IRS system and the social security system would have the same information. If they are all correct, you will have to mail your tax return. Even if there is an error on someone else's return the same number and name will not be accepted through the IRS e-file system. I'm not going to say the system is never wrong, but It is very rare that their systems are wrong on this particular issue.
