Get your taxes done using TurboTax
Generally, you should have received Form 1099-INT. If you have an online TreasuryDirect account, you could get a copy of our 109-INT. Yes, you have to report it on your income tax return.
To enter interest earned on US Savings Bonds, enter it as if you had a 1099-INT form:
- In TurboTax, select Federal from the left menu.
- Select Wages & Income from the top tab.
- Scroll down to Investments and Savings (1099-B, 1099-INT, 1099-DIV, Crypto) and Start/Review.
- If you land on the Your investments and savings screen, scroll all the way down to Add investments.
- On the next page Continue.
- On the Let's import your tax info screen, select Enter a different way.
- On the OK, let's start with one investment type screen, select Interest and Continue.
- On the How do you want to enter your 1099-INT? screen, select, Type it in myself.
- On the Let's get the info from your 1099-INT screen, enter the information putting the amount in Box 3 - Interest on U.S. Savings Bonds and Treas. obligations.
- Continue with the onscreen interview until complete.
- If you have other boxes filled in, check mark the box My form has info in other boxes (this is uncommon).
- Continue with the onscreen interview until complete.
