For those struggling to complete form 8915-f follow these instructions.
1. form 8915-f does not need to be entered as a 1099-R. Because the COVID Cares Act happened in 2020 you don’t enter the old 1099R.
2. There is a question in the retirement income that asks if you received any distribution in the prior year. That’s where you select YES and enter the information from last year as instructed by the program. Make sure you have your 2020 return handy either in pdf or the 2020 turbo tax software opened. The program may give you an error saying that you need to give a name to the disaster even though it’s not required. I typed COVID to get it through and the IRS accepted it.
