Get your taxes done using TurboTax

Your token was very helpful.  There are some actions you must take to properly reflect your backdoor conversion from your traditional IRA to your Roth IRA.

  1. You must remove the Roth 'recharacterized' amount from your IRA contribution screen. This section believes you decided to change your initial contribution to a Roth instead of a traditional IRA which would not be allowed based on your income.
  2. Be sure to enter your $1,000 in the screen 'Excess contribution withdrawn before the due date of your return' in the traditional IRA because you are not yet 50 years of age (in the file I received).
  3. The Form 1099-R was completed correctly except you must make one Forms 1099R for $6,000 only
  4. The taxable amount should be only earnings, not any part of the $6,000
  5. Once these actions are completed you should be able to complete your tax return.
