You don't enter the numbers directly on Line 48 or 27. Instead, you enter the expenses on the Schedule C worksheet (Schedule C Wks listed under the Schedule C in Forms in My Return) and the total will carry over to Line 48 and Line 27. OR, you can enter the expenses using the step-by-step guidance. We do not recommend you enter the information directly on the forms in the forms mode.
Follow these steps to enter business expenses:
- Go to Federal Taxes >> Wages & Income
- Select I'll choose what I work on
- Click on Start/Update next to Business Income and Expenses (Sch C) in the Business Items section
- Click on Add Another Business OR Edit next to the line of business you want to add expenses to
- Click on Start next to All other expenses on the Business Expenses screen
- On the screen that says Enter Business Expenses Not Yet Reported, enter the description of the expense and the amount of the expenses. The total from this screen will flow to Line 48 and Line 27.
- Switch to Forms mode, click on the Schedule C to confirm the amount is reported on Line 27.
