I just got off the phone with TurboTax for over an hour and we have come up with a “work around”. Apparently there is a coding error that will not allow you to carry over adoption credit if your child is over 18. I changed her birth year from 2003 to 2004 and everything works perfectly. TurboTax is suggesting this corse of action even though it is knowingly encouraging you to enter wrong information. It will not be fixed. This is the only option in order to file electronically. I was ensured that it “should not cause future repercussions”. Or, you can print your return, enter the correct information and paper file. I’m very disappointed regarding their solution, however it is the only one available and will not be communicated in mass.
