Get your taxes done using TurboTax

If you want to find the pin, you can contact the IRS. Use the following link,

pin retrieval  for further information regarding that.

As mentioned throughout the thread, you do not need the pin to e-file if you have the AGI. It should be far easier to get last years adjusted gross income, anyway.  Follow the instructions that @ MarilynG1gave above

Hi, ZoltanB45 :

If you are replying to user @ gsmock1 , the user is not asking about an IP PIN , the 6-digit Identity Protection PIN provided by the IRS to victims of ID theft (or those folks who opt-in).

User is asking about a 5-digit PIN (Prior-Year Self-Select PIN) used to electronically sign the return or, in less common cases, to verify the efiling in lieu of 2020 AGI.    The IRS cannot provide a 5-digit PIN, so that IP PIN Retrieval Tool will not help in this case.

@ gsmock1 :

You don't need the prior-year 5-digit PIN.  To verify your return for efiling you can use the 2020 AGI (most common) instead of using the PIN field (less common.)

There is a later screen that asks you to "Sign" the return that wants you to enter a 5-digit PIN (it tells you to choose any 5 numbers you want).   It's on a screen with today's date and your birth date.  The numbers you enter on that "signature" screen is called a Self-Select PIN and can be used again next year, if you save it in a safe place.

If you're having trouble finding your 2020 AGI, we can tell you how you may be able to find your 2020 return, especially if you used Online TurboTax last year.  If it was prepared online, but is not in your online account, you may have multiple accounts, and we can help you troubleshoot to find the right account.
