Get your taxes done using TurboTax

Turbotax sucks in this regard.  type A can be entered as a single line item on the 1099-B worksheet at the top -short-term - provided there are no wash sales or adjustments. this would flow to schedule D line 1a.

however, it seems if you import Turbotax doesn't do this. it lists each transaction separately on capital asset sales worksheet which means if any info is missing you get these error messages. A goes in the 8949 box.

this means if you have 1000 type A transactions all qualifying to be reported as a single item on the 1099-B, you end up with 1000 entries for form 8949 every "error" has to be corrected.  sometimes the issue is that the import shows nothing for the cost. Turbotax want's a number even zero and info to determine long vs short-term.

I have desktop deluxe and even that never gets to the 1099-B worksheet. however, the advantage of desktop is that it has forms mode which allows me to enter the info in the1099-B so I don't end up with 60 pages or whatever of form 8949. of course I can't import.  but entering two numbers -  total sales price and total cost is a lot easier than checking numerous entries one by one
