Thanks for the help. I finally figured it out. 100 percent of the money that came out of my IRA went to charity. Therefore, no 8606 and no adjustment to "basis" for next year's return. My wife got the 8606 because her money didn't go to charity, resulting in necessary adjustment to basis for next year.
