thank you - i did find one really weird entry that accounted for the overcalculation of income and it was an easy fix.  II'd entered a dollar amount with cents, not rounding up/down, got misread, and that apparently caused the entry to go berserk, reading the decimal point as a comma.  I corrected that number and got an apparently correct income result.  This is odd because it is far from the only time i've entered un-rounded numbers (this year or previously), but in this one spot it went amuck.  Please note - it wasn't a typo on my part because the number pad doesn't have a comma!  So user beware...

 

Also, the tax due amount got corrected as a result - but that number never did make sense (too low for the higher number, yet still appears too high for the corrected number, but easy enough to double check with IRS forms). 

 

First time that i've had a problem like this with Turbo Tax...  makes me wonder if this year there are more bugs still in it than usual in February...
