@CarissaM I actually tried that on my own before calling support.  It was one of the many troubleshooting actions I found and tried.  Customer support did have me update my laptop, which took quite some time even though it's brand new (I hadn't thought about the system, drivers, etc. needing updating). That didn't work at the time, but a day or so after my phone call, I updated my system again, figuring that it couldn't hurt.  That did the trick!  I don't know what particular update was done the second time but not included in the first, but it allowed the activation screen to come up (as opposed to the white screen I had been getting) and I could then enter the activation code.  Maybe all the planets were finally in alignment...
