The problem goes to how identical they are. Adding account numbers, etc to distinguish between them is the key here. Please fill in anything on the actual form related to the issuer that will make it clear they are different. Account numbers have worked for others and should for you. The 1040 adds them together without distinction to the owner. We all just assumed the program was distinguishing owners- but must not be.
