Excess social security withheld by two employers with one EIN; how do I list this on my 1040
Hi. I changed divisions in a large company last year. Both divisions sent me a W2 and both deducted Social Security tax from my wages and I overpaid by approximately $1,000. The company has an agreement with the IRS where multiple divisions use the same EIN. I understand I will need to file form 843 to request a refund of excess Social Security tax paid. My question is this: on form 1040 do I include the $1,000 excess Social Security tax withheld? Or do I subtract it manually? My concern is if I subtract it manually the IRS may come back to me and say there's an inconsistency between the Social Security tax withholdings on my 1040 and on my W2's.
Thank you.
