Get your taxes done using TurboTax
If the form does not apply to you, you have NO passive losses, and you want to use the advice of others:
@dpearce22 states for online:
For everyone using the online version there is a work-around that allowed me to file the MD state. When you are on the screen showing the form 8582 with the 0 in the line nine position; right-click in the box with the 0; select "inspect". A bunch of coded text will come up on the right side of the screen. There is a highlighted portion that is directly related to line 9 that you just right-clicked on. In the highlighted section you will see disabled="disabled". Change it to read enabled="enabled". When you do that click over to the 0. in line nine because it will allow you to edit that field now. Delete the 0 and the period. Go back and change enabled="enabled" back to the original disabled="disabled". Then click on continue to finish filing the state tax forms. If you have errors on both state and federal, you should fix the federal first and then use this work-around to fix the state errors. IF you do it the other way it will undo the state fix and you will have to do it again.
@eternal3 states for desktop pc:
I have the turbotax deluxe. In the top right hand corner across from the Federal Refund and Maryland Refund tabs there are three titled tabs, Forms, Flags, Notitifications. Click on the Forms tabs, afterwards the Form 8582 automatic appears on screen. Scroll through the form and see if there are any amounts listed on the Form. If so, go to the column(s) the amount(s) are on and right click your mouse until see other options appear which will show the override option. Click override to the delete any amounts if generated on the form, then down the bottom click close form. Once the amounts were deleted the form immediately was gone and I was able to continue to file taxes. Of course, this only applies if the form is not related to your taxes. I filed a MD tax form.
@conor33 for desktop MAC:
I found that you can bypass the 8582 error by using right click, inspect, and editing the code for the "0" in the top left corner of the 8582 Form and the "0" in box 9. I'm using a macbook and I'm not sure how that would look on PC.
