Reclaimed employer excess HSA contribution?

Hi all,

My employer contributed $1000 to my HSA account.  Based on my insurance, I am not allowed to contribute to my HSA so I submitted a form to my HSA provider to reclaim those contribution and they sent me a check for that amount minus their fee.  I realize I need to pay tax on this money.  My question is, how would this be shown on my tax return?  Is this amount included in my total income from my company or does my company consider this 'pre-tax' so it doesn't show up in my total income?
