Get your taxes done using TurboTax

If you are the custodial parent, you do not need to include any other forms unless there is a Form 8332 in place that allows the noncustodial parent to claim.  If you do not receive the Advanced Child Tax Credits, indicate so on the return and you will receive the entire amount when you file the return (regardless of whether the other parent received them.)

If you are the custodial parent, you can use Form 8332 to do the following.

  • Release a claim to exemption for your child so that the noncustodial parent can claim an exemption for the child.
  • Revoke a previous release of claim to exemption for your child.
