The original question above says "I need to open an old return (10 years old)."
The IRS is not going to have a transcript or copy of a 10-year old tax return. Form 4506-T says "Return transcripts are available for the current year and returns processed during the prior 3 processing years." Form 4506, which is a request for a copy of a tax return, not a transcript, says "Copies of Forms 1040, 1040A, and 1040EZ are generally available for 7 years from filing before they are destroyed by law."
