As long as you don't need to pay any taxes - there is no obligation to file.
I suggest filing a return every year - even if zero or you are owed a credit. Plus then your State knows what's going on.
If the Govt. sends out more handouts - you'll automatically get them.
If you are owed a credit - you'll get it.
Under the current (Trump) tax law most people will have a "post card sized" return ... so the software cost & time spent is minimal.
P.S. One of our Clients never filed taxes for his family or business ... so we received an IRS subpoena (Fraud Division) to provide any information & payment history for the properties we financed for him.
He didn't do anything illegal ... but had to spend a lot of time explaining ...
