My husband didn’t have federal taxes withheld all year. I need my tax return due to car accident putting me out of work. Should I file married seperately or joint?
My husband and I just got married in July last year so neither of us have filed married before. We split all finances 50/50 and make about the same paycheck. He told me today he didn’t have any federal taxes withheld all year. I’m frustrated because I’ve been out of work for the last 2 months from a car accident and was counting on a tax return for my lost wages. I imagine he will owe a lot and my refund will go towards his debt. My question is, would it be more beneficial for me to file separately? Or will that hurt us worse?
